Traverse City to Kalkaska is the shortest drive of any directional approach. Head south on US-131 from downtown Traverse City. That's it - literally. US-131 south for 25 minutes, and you're at Kalkaska.

You'll pass through some beautiful Northern Michigan terrain - rolling hills, forest, and farmland. The drive is easy, traffic is light, and there's nothing complicated about navigation. Just follow US-131 south until you see Northland Plaza on the right (east) side of the road.

Route 3: From Torch Lake Area (15 Minutes)

Torch Lake is northeast of Kalkaska, making it one of the closest drives to Olswell Kalkaska. Head southwest from the Torch Lake area toward Kalkaska via local roads, or pick up M-88 heading southwest.

From M-88, you can connect with US-131 heading toward Kalkaska. Total drive time is about 15 minutes. This is basically a quick neighborhood run for Torch Lake residents.

Route 4: From Grayling (30 Minutes)

Grayling is south of Kalkaska, so you're heading north. Take I-75 north from Grayling toward Grayling Road/M-93, then pick up US-131 heading north toward Kalkaska.

Alternatively, you can take US-127 north from Grayling toward Kalkaska. Either way, it's a straightforward 30-minute drive with light traffic. These are rural Michigan routes, so you're not dealing with highway congestion.

Route 5: From Cadillac (35 Minutes)

Cadillac is west of Kalkaska. Head east from Cadillac on M-115, then north on M-37 toward US-131. Connect with US-131 heading south toward Kalkaska.

Total drive time is about 35 minutes. The roads are rural and well-maintained. You're passing through classic Northern Michigan landscape the whole way.

Winter Driving in Northern Michigan

This is important. Northern Michigan sees significant winter weather - snow, ice, and cold temperatures are the norm from November through March. Roads get treated, but they can still be treacherous.

If you're driving to Kalkaska in winter, allow extra time. What's a 25-minute drive in summer might take 40 minutes in heavy snow. Drive at speeds appropriate for conditions. US-131 is a main route and gets snow removal priority, but that doesn't mean it's safe at high speeds.
