Michigan Cannabis Purchase Limits: Transaction and Possession Limits Explained

Per Transaction: The Limit at the Counter

One sale tops out at 2.5 ounces total, and no more than 15 grams of that total can be concentrate. The 15 grams sits inside the 2.5 ounces. It is not a second allowance on top. Your budtender holds the sale to the limit at the register after checking your valid government-issued photo ID. If your order runs over, you trim it and check out.

What You Can Carry and Keep

• On you in public: 2.5 ounces, with no more than 15 grams of it as concentrate.
• At home: up to 10 ounces.

The store limits the sale, but the carry limit is the one that follows you out the door, and it is yours to manage. On the drive home, keep your purchase sealed in the trunk or a closed glove box.

Can I Visit Two Stores in One Day?

Each store caps a single sale at 2.5 ounces, but the carry limit follows you. Two stops with 2.5 ounces each puts 5 ounces on you, well past the 2.5 ounce public limit. Count what you already have before you buy, and leave the rest at home.

Doing the Math Before You Buy

Say you already have 1 ounce of flower on you. Buying another 2.5 ounces would put 3.5 ounces on you, which is over the public limit. Buy less, or drop what you have at home first. Cannabis you grow yourself counts toward what you possess too.

How Concentrates and Edibles Count

Flower and concentrate share one allowance: 2.5 ounces total, with the concentrate part capped at 15 grams. Edibles and other infused products count toward your limit too. If you are close to the line, ask the budtender how a specific product counts before you check out.

What Happens If You Go Over?

At the store, the sale simply stops at the limit, so you cut the order down. Outside the store, carrying more than the legal amount can bring a fine and loss of the cannabis, and carrying well over it can become a criminal charge.
