How to Tell RSO From a Tincture

RSO (Rick Simpson Oil) is a thick, dark whole-plant extract, made by soaking cannabis in a solvent and evaporating it off. It is very concentrated, hard to measure precisely, and a piece the size of a grain of rice can be a lot.

A tincture is a liquid extract, usually alcohol-based, with a dropper. The label lists the THC and CBD per dropper or milliliter, so you can measure in small steps.

One quick rule: if you want to adjust your dose a little at a time, a tincture is the easier tool. If you already know concentrates and want something strong, RSO is the one that fits. Our explainer on what RSO oil is has more.

Dosing Both Safely

1. Read the label for the THC and CBD content of the exact product you have.
2. Start with the smallest amount the label describes. For RSO, that means no more than a grain of rice.
3. For a tincture, hold it under the tongue as directed or swallow it. Sublingual use is generally felt sooner, and swallowed tinctures act more like edibles.
4. Wait at least two hours before taking more. Effects can be slow and can last many hours.
5. Do not drive, boat or ride.
