How RKIVE Hash Rosin is Made: Inside Olswell's Solventless Extraction Process

The process in four steps

1. Grow. Olswell grows the cannabis in Michigan, so the lab works with plants the team grew itself.
2. Wash. Ice water and agitation separate the resin glands from the rest of the plant.
3. Collect. The resin is filtered out through fine mesh screens and collected as ice water hash. Leaf and stem material stays behind.
4. Press. Hash rosin is solventless hash pressed with heat and pressure, so the resin flows out as rosin.

That is the general shape of ice water hash rosin. Every maker has their own tweaks, and Olswell does not publish its exact settings, so this guide sticks to what the method is and why it matters.

What does solventless mean?

Solventless means no chemical solvents touch the plant at any step. Instead of butane, propane, or ethanol, the maker uses ice, water, and mechanical force to separate the resin, then heat and pressure to press it. It takes more starting material and more labor than solvent methods, and many people prefer the flavor it gives.

Why ice water works

The resin glands on cannabis, called trichomes, hold most of the aroma and cannabinoids. Cold makes them brittle, so they break away from the plant when the mixture is stirred. The water carries the loose resin away from the leaf and stem, and the screens catch it. No chemicals are involved at any point.

Why batches differ

Solventless is a craft process, and batches vary. The strain, the growing season, the harvest timing, and the choices made at the wash and the press all shape what you get. Aroma, color, and texture can differ from one drop to the next, and that is normal. It is also why we suggest you read the label and ask about the batch you are holding.

Testing and quality
