The Route: Chicago to Michigan via I-94

I-94 is the spine of this trip. Head north and east out of Chicago, run toward the Michigan-Indiana border, and let it curve northeast into Michigan.

It's an easy drive: mostly highway, well-signed, predictable. Leaving Chicago can get thick around the Dan Ryan, but once you clear the metro it opens up. Grand Rapids sits about 150 miles out.
